There are no council meetings or committee meetings scheduled for the month of August.

Local Farmers’ Markets

Northside Farmers Market: Thursdays, 4:30-7 p.m., 201 East Brookland Park Boulevard.

RVA Big Market: Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., Bryan Park.

Lakeside Farmers Market: Wednesdays and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., 6106 Lakeside Avenue.

Brookland Park Boulevard Cleanup

On Saturday, August 20 at 10 a.m., RVA Clean Sweep will meet at 2917 North Avenue for a cleanup. Pickers, bags, and safety vests will be provided.

Parking Permits

The current parking permits for Jackson Ward residents expire on August 31. New parking permits are available for $25; annual visitor passes are cost $35.

Virginia Tourism Corporation Grants

The Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) is offering a reimbursable grant program to assist small tourism-related businesses and boost non-peak seasonal visitation. The VTC is accepting applications through August 4 to September 20. Eligible applicants should be tourism-related businesses with less than 20 full-time employees.

Improving Bike Safety

The Department of Public Works has added a mini street sweeper dedicated to bike lane maintenance to its fleet. The compact sweeper will improve cyclist’s safety by keeping lanes clear of debris.

Water Rate Increase

Richmond Gas Works recently sent out a 95% cost increase notice to its 120,000 customers throughout Richmond, Henrico, and Chesterfield. Although Council is unable to reduce the 54 cent increase of a cubic foot of natural gas, they intend to help reduce the burden of the cost of living through proposed environmental solutions.
