Concert Ballet of Virginia Marks
Its 41st Season of Performances
The Concert Ballet of Virginia, the state’s oldest continually operating ballet company, enters its 41st season with entertaining performances of works from its repertory of more than 260 dance pieces. Performances of The Concert Ballet are staged throughout the greater Richmond metro area and the state.
This season begins with a kick-off dinner September 24, 6 pm, at Wilton House Museum, 215 South Wilton Road, Richmond. Although it’s free, reservations are required. Those interested, call 804-798-0945.
This year’s Fall Gala is called “A Little Modern” which includes selections in a clearly modern vein by Virginia choreographers from The Concert Ballet’s 40-year repertory. One performance only on Sunday, October 2, 2:30 pm, at The Woman’s Club Auditorium, 211 East Franklin Street, Richmond.
The Fall Soiree, “Young People’s Choreography”, promotes the development of new dance works through the mentoring of young Virginia dance creators. The new works will premiere Sunday, October 23, 2:30 pm, in The Concert Ballet Studio Space, 11028 Leadbetter Road, Hanover Air Park, Ashland.
“Nutcracker” Suite, our 45-minute version of the holiday classic, will be performed Saturday, November. 26, 11 am and 2:00 pm, at Williamsburg Regional Library Theatre, 515 Scotland St., Willamsburg. This performance is free and open to the public.
Repertory and “The Nutcracker” Selections will be presented Wednesday, December 7, 11:00 am, at the December meeting of the Ginter Park Woman’s Club, 3016 Seminary Aveenue, Richmond. Free, but reservations are required. Please call 804-798-0945.
A full production of “The Nutcracker” will be performed Saturday, December 10, 2:30 pm and 7:30 pm, and Sunday, December 11, 2:30 pm, at Monacan High School Theatre, 11501 Smoketree Drive, Chesterfield Country. “The Nutcracker”, in its entirety, will also be performed Saturday, December 17, 2:30 pm and 7:30 pm; and Sunday, December 18, 2:30 pm, at Atlee High School Auditorium, 9414 Atlee Station Road, Mechanicsville.
Taste of “The Nutcracker”, a 30-minute version of the holiday classic, will be performed Wednesday, December 14, 3 pm, at The Woman’s Club Auditorium, 211 East Franklin Street, Richmond.
Winter Gala with the Concert Ballet Orchestra features Iris Schwartz conducting popular musical selections along with dance works from The Concert Ballet’s repertory, commissioned especially for the Orchestra/Ballet collaboration on Sunday, February 26, 2017, 2:30 pm, at The Woman’s Club Auditorium, 211 East Franklin Street, Richmond.
