Earth Day at The Science Museum of Virginia
04.2026
Going green has never been more fun! Celebrate Earth Month by enjoying a family friendly, activity-packed festival exploring sustainability, natural resources and environmental science.
On April 18, the Dewey Gottwald Center, with nearly 30 community partners, will be presenting hands-on activities to help your family learn all about watersheds, forestry, native plants, conservation efforts, recycling, bike infrastructure, floodplains, birds and much more. Our Earth Day celebration is sponsored by Meta.
The American Chemical Society will have engaging and interactive activities that showcase trees and forestry.
In addition to the Earth Day partner activities, you’ll be able to enjoy Science Museum demonstrations, labs and exhibitions. You can also take a guided tour of The Green with our staff horticulturist, and discover behind-the-scenes insights that make this space flourish.
And don’t forget to include a visit to The Dome. All the films playing during the festival highlight the awesomeness of the Earth. Here’s the Earth Day schedule: at 10:30 am, Into America’s Wild; at noon, a live astronomy show; at 1:30 pm, Wings Over Water; and at 3 pm, Birth of Planet Earth.
Earth Day activities, designed for guests of all ages, take place from noon till five in the Dewey Gottwald Center.
Earth Day activities are included with Science Museum admission, which is only $10 on April 18. Science Museum members, Virginia educators, military personnel and children two and younger are free. Dome features require an additional $5 ticket; members may use a Dome pass.
