Calls for Community Support As Food Insecurity Surges

The Northside RVA Food Pantry at Ginter Park United Methodist Church is issuing an urgent call for community support as food insecurity in the Richmond Northside community reaches its highest level in years. As highlighted in recent news, demand has continued to grow dramatically across Virginia—and that trend has accelerated even further during the recent government shutdown and federal funding cuts.

Over the last two years, the pantry has seen the number of families seeking assistance grow from 200 to more than 400 in recent weeks, a dramatic 100% increase. This surge has placed enormous strain on the pantry’s resources.

Among the items most needed this winter are staple pantry goods such as spaghetti sauce, canned fruit, canned corn, and other canned vegetables, which are often difficult to keep in stock but essential for preparing nutritious meals.
