Hermitage Richmond Administers COVID-19 Vaccines

Residents and team members at Hermitage Richmond received the first doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine on Friday, January 8, 2021, as Virginia and its pharmacy partners roll-out vaccinations to long-term care providers and retirement communities.

Residents and team members at Hermitage Richmond, a premier retirement community in Richmond’s historic Ginter Park neighborhood, are excited and hopeful to be among the first in Virginia to receive the vaccine. Walgreens coordinated, scheduled, and administered the vaccine at Hermitage Richmond on behalf of the Virginia Department of Health.

“It will take three visits to vaccinate those among the community who provided consent to be immunized, starting with the two-dose process and a third visit for anyone who was missed,” says Hermitage Richmond Executive Director Amy Chapman. “Our team members and residents are all very excited to start this process. We’ve had a resoundingly positive response from everyone involved." Although the vaccine administration will hopefully increase the possibility of reunions among residents and their families, residents and team members will continue taking preventative measures and follow the CDC guidelines — including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), screening team members, physically distancing, and restricting visitation to our community.

“We hope this helps residents to get the social aspects of their lives back, but we understand it’s going to take some time,” Chapman says.
