Gay Pride With TransJam
by Charles McGuigan 05.2025
Celebrate diversity, inclusion, and Gay Pride all June long with a number of events brought to you by TransJam RVA.
On June 1 there’s a double header: Sober Pride at Diversity Thrift, and Pride at the Garden at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. TransJam’s monthly Big GAY Pride Market is slated for June 8 at Diversity Thrift. On June 14, Pride on Forest Hill will be held at Thirsty’s Bar & Grill, followed on June 22 by Carytown Pride Market in Carytown. And to wrap up Pride Month on June 28 head over to Hardywood for Love on Tap.
TransJamRVA was created by Andy Waller, owner of Dayum Jam, and “organized exclusively for charitable purposes, in particular for assistance to LGBTQ+ persons facing housing insecurity and hunger, and for education and outreach programs to encourage inclusion and celebration of LGBTQ+ persons, organizing events to support these purposes and missions, and engaging in related educational efforts.”
Three years ago, Andy Waller formed TransJam RVA after spending decades in the conventional workforce where they experienced discrimination and queer/transphobia and harassment due to their being queer/trans.
“It was launched it with the clear intention to more deeply support and bring visibility to the LGBTQ+ community through events, mutual aid efforts, and education,” says Andy. “TransJam events not only offer a more affirming and alternative revenue stream for LGBTQ+ folks, our events also strive to be a safer space for our community.”
Andy’s company, Dayum this is my Jam, is a queer and trans-owned small-batch crafter of jams, pickles, and salsas named after hit songs.
The Dayum Jam team works hard to bring folks high quality products and to support and work with other underrepresented makers.
“It’s not just yummy jams and pickles Dayum Jam works hard on crafting every day,”Andy says. “We also want to use our platform to speak up and out about what we believe in. Dayum Jam believes in racial and social justice. We care deeply about LGBTQ+ liberation, women’s rights, and dismantling white supremacy.”
Dayum Jam products are available at Stir Crazy Cafe, Up All Night Bakery, Little House Green Grocery, Capital Chips, ShinDigz, Morr Donuts, Riverbend Coffee, World of Mirth, Outpost, Union Market, The Local, and the Garden Shop at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden.
